#Trabant2Paris - The ultimate Trabi road trip info - technical details

Honestly, we cannot recall the day, not even the season when we set our mind to buy a Trabant. Rémi often jokingly talked about it to friends and family and we got different reactions from the very beginning. All in all we always managed to convince people that it was a feasible, cool idea. We had been looking for Trabants from about March on, on a popular Hungarian website, dedicated for second hand cars.  We were hesitating between two types : the Trabant 1.1 - a newer edition with 4 stroke VW engine and the Trabant 601 with 2 stroke engine.  Obviously the previous one seemed as an easier and safer solution, but turned out that it is not possible to register it in France for one reason - any Trabants brought to France must be registered as an old timer. This regulation is based mainly on environmental protection reasons and the fact that these cars were never sold in France. The 1st criteria for an old timer is its age, that must be at least 30 years. Only th...

Article by Holdi, the trickster dog from Cabo de Gata 'At the East of Andalucía, in the South of Spain , we find one of those places with a different vibe : the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata – Níjar. This place is a deserted region where it's not just a daydream to sleep under the stars and listen to the waves of the ocean. One day, the decision was made to add the Holdineta van to our lives. Then, I was ready with  Holdi, the 2 years old dog, to pack everything and leave for an adventurous roadtrip. The trip started exactly at the same place, where we are today: in the Cabo de Gata area. Only a few more kilometres until our last stage of this trip … At least, for now. Why is this trip, around  Cabo de Gata  sepcial for us? This is the place where Holdi, the dog, started her first steps, she started to feel free on the way to discover hidden beaches and learned how to swim in the warm water of Cabo de Gata. Sometimes, her legs just weren’t big enough to ...

Short visit to the Cantal

You might know the Volvic mineral water, right? Did you know where does it come from? From the Massif Central (FR), its source is Clairvic Spring in the Auvergne Regional Park. So if you can imagine this bottle of water - most importantly, the logo of the brand – imagine it in a bigger version and you’ve arrived! The landscape is green, incredibly green. However, there’s not many trees, just the grassy plateaus. We spent a weekend in Cantal , that lies in the middle of France's central plateau . More precisely, we stayed next to Puy Mary, an extinct volcano, about 6,5 million years old. The snow covered Puy Mary Our plans meet the reality As we spent the 1st of May Bank Holiday there, we prepared with hiking boots and lots of motivation to climb the mountains. Unfortunately this winter was longer than usually, and the weekend brought terrible weather circumstances. Positive experience          Luckily we found a nice, old ...

Local tourism part 2

The summer has arrived! What is your favourite place to cool down ? Around Nantes, the Atlantic coast is the most obvious answer for this question. However in July the beach can be crowded, so here is an alternative option . Hiking in the forest, next to the canals, is a beautiful, peaceful summer afternoon program. We discovered a lovely walk that follows the Petit Canal ou Rigole alimentaire. It’s less than an hour to drive there from the city.   Linked to the Canal de Nantes à Brest A 385 km long canal across Bretagne – that would be nice to walk one day!   Let’s start with something easier. The Rigole alimentaire is a 21 km long canal that was built between 1833 and ’36 to support the main canal’s flow and so to provide a smooth boat traffic on the bigger canal. The countryside was changed; it was industrialized, but once abandoned. That’s how nowadays we can take a romantic walk there, where the nature almost completely took back its p...

Improvised coastal walks

We had no idea where exactly we were and what we should have done. Clohars-Carnoët was a lovely place but not big enough to spend the whole day there. Walk with open eyes and welcome the upcoming opportunities! At least in this region of France tourists are well informed about the sites and possible hikes. You can find touristic maps all over in the villages! Discovering a stunning coastal hike from the Port de Brigneau Less then 15 mins drive from the camping and we were in the small, picturesque harbour of Brigneau. We started with the track 5, that follows the cliffed coast for a while then turns towards inland and crosses a few villages. Port de Brigeau track number 5 The hike was beautiful Because of its distance from the inhabited area blue ocean, rocky cliffs and hidden beaches on your left rich flora and fauna, included the seasonal wildflowers alongside the path. It was wild, it was only for us . Was it? About 4 people ...

Dare to be spontaneous

Armor or Argoat? Coast or inland forests? The answer is both of them! We asked a friend from Brittany to recommend us some nice locations for a weekend trip. Naturally she listed a bunch of sites. Finally we decided to visit the inland forests – Argoat. Huelgoat forest How was that famous proverb? Man plans…and God laughs. The day started brilliantly: sunshine, shorts, sandals, happy picnic. A few hours later dark clouds appeared seemingly from nowhere. The temperature dropped and so our mood, since the original plan was to camp overnight... In this case either you strictly stick to your plan, or as we did, look up the weather forecast in the nearby area in the hope of finding some sunshine not too far. Luckily the coast seemed clear! That’s how we ended up visiting both Argoat, the foresty inland of the Brittany Peninsula and Armor (Armorique, Armorica), the cliffed coast. What did we see in 2 days? 1. The hidden treasure of Le Faouët The Cha...
