Local tourism part 2

The summer has arrived! What is your favourite place to cool down? Around Nantes, the Atlantic coast is the most obvious answer for this question. However in July the beach can be crowded, so here is an alternative option.

Hiking in the forest, next to the canals, is a beautiful, peaceful summer afternoon program.
We discovered a lovely walk that follows the Petit Canal ou Rigole alimentaire. It’s less than an hour to drive there from the city.

Linked to the Canal de Nantes à Brest
A 385 km long canal across Bretagne – that would be nice to walk one day!
Let’s start with something easier.

The Rigole alimentaire is a 21 km long canal that was built between 1833 and ’36 to support the main canal’s flow and so to provide a smooth boat traffic on the bigger canal.
The countryside was changed; it was industrialized, but once abandoned. That’s how nowadays we can take a romantic walk there, where the nature almost completely took back its place.

Today the Rigole alimentaire’s functions are replaced by other methods. The four stone aqueducts, alongside the 21 km canal, are covered with moss and hidden between lush green plants. Parallel to the canal, the fast river Erdre flows. At some point we have the possibility to go down to the river bank. It’s a hidden, mysterious landscape, a less known heritage from the region.

🐕 Traveling with dog here is of course possible and a fun experience if your furry friend likes water.

If you live around Nantes, take time on a sunny afternoon to discover this unknown path.

#Trabant2Paris - The ultimate Trabi road trip info - technical details

Honestly, we cannot recall the day, not even the season when we set our mind to buy a Trabant. Rémi often jokingly talked about it to friends and family and we got different reactions from the very beginning. All in all we always managed to convince people that it was a feasible, cool idea. We had been looking for Trabants from about March on, on a popular Hungarian website, dedicated for second hand cars.  We were hesitating between two types : the Trabant 1.1 - a newer edition with 4 stroke VW engine and the Trabant 601 with 2 stroke engine.  Obviously the previous one seemed as an easier and safer solution, but turned out that it is not possible to register it in France for one reason - any Trabants brought to France must be registered as an old timer. This regulation is based mainly on environmental protection reasons and the fact that these cars were never sold in France. The 1st criteria for an old timer is its age, that must be at least 30 years. Only th...

Improvised coastal walks

We had no idea where exactly we were and what we should have done. Clohars-Carnoët was a lovely place but not big enough to spend the whole day there. Walk with open eyes and welcome the upcoming opportunities! At least in this region of France tourists are well informed about the sites and possible hikes. You can find touristic maps all over in the villages! Discovering a stunning coastal hike from the Port de Brigneau Less then 15 mins drive from the camping and we were in the small, picturesque harbour of Brigneau. We started with the track 5, that follows the cliffed coast for a while then turns towards inland and crosses a few villages. Port de Brigeau track number 5 The hike was beautiful Because of its distance from the inhabited area blue ocean, rocky cliffs and hidden beaches on your left rich flora and fauna, included the seasonal wildflowers alongside the path. It was wild, it was only for us . Was it? About 4 people ...
