Improvised coastal walks

We had no idea where exactly we were and what we should have done. Clohars-Carnoët was a lovely place but not big enough to spend the whole day there.

Walk with open eyes and welcome the upcoming opportunities!
At least in this region of France tourists are well informed about the sites and possible hikes. You can find touristic maps all over in the villages!

Discovering a stunning coastal hike from the Port de Brigneau

Less then 15 mins drive from the camping and we were in the small, picturesque harbour of Brigneau. We started with the track 5, that follows the cliffed coast for a while then turns towards inland and crosses a few villages.

Port de Brigeau
track number 5
The hike was beautiful
  • Because of its distance from the inhabited area
  • blue ocean, rocky cliffs and hidden beaches on your left
  • rich flora and fauna, included the seasonal wildflowers alongside the path.
  • It was wild, it was only for us.

Was it?
About 4 people crossed our way during the few hours long trip, and a curious lost bichon. The doggy started to follow an elderly couple then joined us, because of our dog. It was friendly, I wished we could have adopted him. But he had a collar, we thought he was from the nearby village.

What to do if you find a lost dog/cat?

1. Easy case
Normally dogs have a collar with a tag or a mikro chip with a phone number and/or address. Try to reach the owner.

2. Most of the dogs and cats don’t run away too far from their home
That was our case: first we asked by the closest house if anyone knows him. The lady from there had no idea, but the neighbors knew the dog! We lost half an hour from our planned trip, but for a good reason.

3. Rescue them
If you’re not as lucky as us, please don’t abandon the pet in any case. Be patient, capture it and you may be able to find the worried owner or a new loving home for it. read more here

Loop or walk back the same way?

The question that often comes up during a coastal hike.
Take the same path back or try to loop the trip? Difficult to tell. During this hike we followed the track number 5 in the direction of the inland. Honestly, we regretted it a little bit. The villages that we crossed were nothing spectacular and somehow deserted. On the other hand it was a short cut and a change of the landscape.

Bonus
Two historical cities that are worth visiting

1. Pont Aven
"A famous town 14 mills, 15 houses". Today there are more houses and only one mill remains in operation but the village didn't loose from its charm. The highlight of the place is the Promenade Xavier-Grall along the river Aven and its historical mills. Discover the cute site on the several foot bridges between the old houses.

2. Saint-Cado
A former sardine port, nowadays a romantic place to visit. The town is located on an island which is accessible via a small stone bridge. The famous postcard photo is the ancient oyster's farmers cottage, that stands alone in the middle of the river on a few rocks. And indeed Saint-Cado is famous of its oysters too! Walk around the island, it's lovely and doesn't take more than 30 mins ;)

Apropos some change, our next topic is further away from Nantes and Bretagne. We’ll feature a weekend trip in the Massif Central, in Cantal.

#Trabant2Paris - Second country - Austria

O n our second day we crossed the border between Hungary and Austria. During our trip each border crossings happened on small roads, almost without the realisation that we changed country. Especially that each of these border regions, that we visited were territories, that the countries (Hungary, Austria, Germany and France) lost or won back during the I and II World War. Nowadays these regions seem to own a rich culture, that they inherited from the different countries.  The above mentioned multinational identity is well illustrated just by studying the name of Rust , a town next to the Neusiedlersee .  The settlement was first mentioned as Ceel in 1317. This name was derived from the Hungarian word 'szil' (elm tree) . Later it was translated into German 'Rüster' or 'Rusten' . Presently, in Hungarian we say Ruszt , that obviously originates from the German word.  The town was endowed with the rights of a royal free city by the Hungarian crown ...

Towns with great view

Soon the summer is back and so is the crowd in our favourite romantic towns. Benefit of the last months before the holidays, be smart and visit the famous French historical cities out of the high season. We've been to Saint-Malo and Dinan. Dinan 1, Extraordinary location This gem is still hidden from the mass tourism. We found out about  Dinan thanks to an Instagram post and the town was immediately put on our Bucket list of Brittany.  163 km from Nantes, located by the Rance estuary, Dinan is a picturesque old town.  The river Rance forms a deep gulf between Dinan and the sea. The gulf is due to the marine flooding of a steep-sided valley which has been formed by tidal water. The historical city is both located down in the valley and up on the hill. This curious location would already  give us  a good reason to visit. Not to mention the old half timbered houses from 15C to 17C, the narrow, sloped, cobbled streets, the Tour de l’Horloge, th...
