Article by Holdi, the trickster dog from Cabo de Gata

'At the East of Andalucía, in the South of Spain, we find one of those places with a different vibe: the
Natural Park of Cabo de Gata – Níjar. This place is a deserted region where it's not just a daydream to sleep under the stars and listen to the waves of the ocean.

One day, the decision was made to add the Holdineta van to our lives. Then, I was ready with  Holdi, the 2 years old dog, to pack everything and leave for an adventurous roadtrip.

The trip started exactly at the same place, where we are today: in the Cabo de Gata area.
Only a few more kilometres until our last stage of this trip … At least, for now.

Why is this trip, around Cabo de Gata sepcial for us?
This is the place where Holdi, the dog, started her first steps, she started to feel free on the way to discover hidden beaches and learned how to swim in the warm water of Cabo de Gata.
Sometimes, her legs just weren’t big enough to jump over small rocks laying on the path. Now,
she, the crazy dog, grew up and loves the idea to travel with a human.

But, what can we find here?
It´s a place full of hidden paradises.

We would like to enlist some of them for you:
❂ El Playazo de Rodalquilar: it´s a quite big and nice beach. There is also an old
castle from XVIII century: Castillo de San Ramón.

❂ Cala de San Pedro: an abandoned village with a dark past. Until few years ago
it was an oasis, almost empty. Nowadays, it´s become more popular, but still
keeps its magical charm.

❂ Cala del Plomo: usually, one of the less crowded places and gives us access to Cala de
Enmedio.

❂ Playa de Mónsul: do you remember when the Nazis were chasing Indiana Jones with a
plane on a beach? So there we are…

❂ Other ones: playa de los Muertos, Genoveses, Media Luna, Cala Higuera, Cala
del Tabaco

Some logistics:
Best time to visit: from April to the begging of July and September

ATM: the closest are in San José, in the coast line, and Campohermoso

Shops and restaurants: to the previously mentioned towns we must add Las Negras and
Rodalquilar

What's next?
We have already travelled along Spain (Andalucía, Asturias, Galicia,...) and Portugal (from north to
south). Now, it's time to start our long way until Hungary.

Going up along the Mediterranean coast, we are going to reach the South of France, North of Italy and by crossing Slovenia we are going to end up in Budapest. Would you like to join us?'

Dare to be spontaneous

Armor or Argoat? Coast or inland forests? The answer is both of them! We asked a friend from Brittany to recommend us some nice locations for a weekend trip. Naturally she listed a bunch of sites. Finally we decided to visit the inland forests – Argoat. Huelgoat forest How was that famous proverb? Man plans…and God laughs. The day started brilliantly: sunshine, shorts, sandals, happy picnic. A few hours later dark clouds appeared seemingly from nowhere. The temperature dropped and so our mood, since the original plan was to camp overnight... In this case either you strictly stick to your plan, or as we did, look up the weather forecast in the nearby area in the hope of finding some sunshine not too far. Luckily the coast seemed clear! That’s how we ended up visiting both Argoat, the foresty inland of the Brittany Peninsula and Armor (Armorique, Armorica), the cliffed coast. What did we see in 2 days? 1. The hidden treasure of Le Faouët The Cha...

#Trabant2Paris - The ultimate Trabi road trip info - technical details

Honestly, we cannot recall the day, not even the season when we set our mind to buy a Trabant. Rémi often jokingly talked about it to friends and family and we got different reactions from the very beginning. All in all we always managed to convince people that it was a feasible, cool idea. We had been looking for Trabants from about March on, on a popular Hungarian website, dedicated for second hand cars.  We were hesitating between two types : the Trabant 1.1 - a newer edition with 4 stroke VW engine and the Trabant 601 with 2 stroke engine.  Obviously the previous one seemed as an easier and safer solution, but turned out that it is not possible to register it in France for one reason - any Trabants brought to France must be registered as an old timer. This regulation is based mainly on environmental protection reasons and the fact that these cars were never sold in France. The 1st criteria for an old timer is its age, that must be at least 30 years. Only th...

Local tourism part 2

The summer has arrived! What is your favourite place to cool down ? Around Nantes, the Atlantic coast is the most obvious answer for this question. However in July the beach can be crowded, so here is an alternative option . Hiking in the forest, next to the canals, is a beautiful, peaceful summer afternoon program. We discovered a lovely walk that follows the Petit Canal ou Rigole alimentaire. It’s less than an hour to drive there from the city.   Linked to the Canal de Nantes à Brest A 385 km long canal across Bretagne – that would be nice to walk one day!   Let’s start with something easier. The Rigole alimentaire is a 21 km long canal that was built between 1833 and ’36 to support the main canal’s flow and so to provide a smooth boat traffic on the bigger canal. The countryside was changed; it was industrialized, but once abandoned. That’s how nowadays we can take a romantic walk there, where the nature almost completely took back its p...
